The Company:

This fabulous local council located a short drive from Darwin CBD is looking for an Events Lead to join their team. Community is at the centre of everything this council does, and the Events Lead will lead the event management of large scale community events for the community.

The Role:

The Events Lead will be responsible for developing and coordinating a variety of inclusive community and civic events that are creative, engaging and exciting. This is a hands-on role that will deliver a wide-range of programs and activities, including major events. This role will also have the opportunity to create events from scratch in line with their Community Plan.

Key Responsibilities include;
  • Develop, facilitate and deliver Council’s events and activities using sound project management skills (including evaluation of events) and applying continuous improvement strategies where needed.
  • Manage contractors as needed to deliver event programs, including infrastructure, traffic and waste management, and power requirements such as sound and lighting.
  • Promote inclusive participation from all groups and individuals in community events and activities.
  • Establish and maintain high-level strategic partnerships with Council’s Marketing and Communications team to oversee the development and execution of communication plans for events and activities.
  • Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive risk management frameworks for all events, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation to risk management practices to ensure the safety and success of all events
  • Support the City Activation Manager to seek and obtain relevant grants/sponsorship for key initiatives and events.
  • Support the strategic direction of the events activity calendar and liaise the City Activation Manager in the programming of events.
  • Provide regular financial reporting and forecasting to the City Activation Manager, ensuring transparency and accountability in all financial matters.
  • Research, maintain and develop Council's policies relating to events including Council civic events.
  • Supervise and provide strategic leadership and direction to the Events Officer, while ensuring alignment with broader Council objectives.
  • Lead strategic decision-making processes for event initiatives and work closely with senior leadership to influence the long-term planning and delivery of community activation programs.
  • Provide strategic advice and support to the City Activation Manager, including the preparation of planning data, budgets, reports, continuous improvement strategies and funding proposals.
  • Other duties as directed.
The Candidate:

The ideal candidate will have extensive event management experience, with experience coordinating outdoor events. Experience working within Councils, Universities and/or Government is highly desirable. Experience leading and mentoring staff is also highly desirable.
  • Extensive experience in strategic planning for events, including project plans, marketing plans and setting and monitoring of KPIs and objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate at a high strategic level, collaborating effectively with local, state and federal governments, non-government organisations and the community in a collaborative partnership.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, communication and negotiating skills.
  • Proven leadership in strategic planning, cross functional team management and experience in project management including proficiency in appropriate software.
  • Demonstrated experience in the management of budgets, including the ability to research, attract and monitor sponsorships and grants from public and private sector organisations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously within a team and autonomously.
  • Experience in staff supervision, with experience of staff engagement through team mentoring / coaching.
  • Current driver's licence.

  • Salary: $110,000 - $115,000 plus super, depending on experience
